It looks like the big screen has made a big comeback in Portugal over this past semester.
Cinema houses saw an estimate of 6.6 million people flocking to get their cinematic fix. This in turn has brought in revenue of 33.9 million Euros from January to June.
According to the Cinema and Audio Institute, it is believed that block busters such as Fast and the Furious 7 and Fifty Shades of Grey pulled this huge number of audiences in. During the time that these movies were screening, the cinemas made revenue of more than 7 million Euros and filled 1.3 million seats.
Portugal’s first cinema festival, “Festa do Cinema” is believed to also have an influence on cinema goers as around 200 000 people went to the cinema during this festival
