Portugal has become the best choice of Brazilian entrepreneurs, the main reasons being security and tax incentives but more importantly because it is a “gateway” in Europe.

The language and the relaxed “latino” lifestyle play a major role to facilitate the move of the most successful Brazilian companies and businesses to Portugal.

These factors make easy the dialogue to access to European funds, which attracts investment for Brazilian entrepreneurs to settle in the country.

The present migration is completely different from the wave that flooded Portugal of the late eighties, which  consisted mainly of the middle class segment of the  Brazilian society , who due to adverse economic climate are also overwhelming the Portuguese consulates asking for visas

The new expatriates represent the big money that is buying the most expensive properties and transfer the head offices of most important Brazilian enterprises to the major Portugueses urban centres.

Top mining companies, coffee-roasting industries, representing 55% of the coffee production in Brazil, and leading brand factories have recently settled in Portugal with investments that are creating jobs and stimulating the economy.

One area that is attracting Brazilian investors is “Portuguese experience”, in particular in terms of technology, sustainability, environment and wind energy.

Changes in legislation and the economic situation are two key factors for the Brazilian financiers to choose Lisbon and less Miami when buying real estate.

The Brazilian became the best individual buyers of property in Lisbon area because they arrive in the Portuguese capital with the highest budget comparing with other investors.

Brazil had already the biggest foreign community in Portugal with 87,493 residents., 22% of the total of foreigners, but the new trend of arrivals consist of people of a high standard of financial resources that has the biggest budgets for buying houses, looking for real estate from 800,000 Euros (3.2 million dollars) and 300 square metres, preferably on the route between Lisbon and Estoril.

In value terms of more expensive property Brazil is now the third investor in Portugal, Angola being the first.
