Bright start for Vasco in NFD

It continues to be a bright start for Vasco da Gama in the in the National First Division this season after they beat Royal Eagles 1-0 at Parow Park on Sunday to make it two wins out of two.

Vasco sit top of the table with six points and are the only side who have earned maximum points thus far.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in a tightly-contested match, but former Mamelodi Sundowns man Samuel Julies made the difference when his 87th minute goal separated the two teams.

Julies appeared to cross the ball, but the flight and angle of it bamboozled the visitor’s goalkeeper and the ball found its way into the back of the net.

Vasco’s next game will be away to Thanda Royal Zulu on September 13 once the international break is over.

In other NFD matches over this past weekend Santos beat Maluti FET College 3-2, Garankuwa United beat Highlands Park 2-0 and African Warriors FC and FC Cape Town drew 1-1.

Meanwhile Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards were locked at 1-1, Witbank Spurs got a valuable 2-0 win over Cape Town All Stars and Baroka FC and Thanda Royal Zulu ended in a goalless draw. Former top-flight outfit Golden Arrows drew 0-0 with Milano United.
