The Portuguese language seems to be doing its rounds half way around the world, China to be exact.
The online edition of the People’s Daily, which can be accessed on http://Portuguese.people.com.CN, has launched a Portuguese portal.
On this portal, there are various subjects that will be discussed, such as, politics, society, education, culture, sport, science, tourism and the economy.
The initiative of a Portuguese portal is part of the People’s Daily global development strategy. This initiative already includes languages such as English, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, German and Korean.
Xinhua, China’s state news agency and its international radio broadcaster already have services in Portuguese.
Portuguese-speaking countries such as Brazil, Angola and Portugal have had economic ties with China over recent years. This has led to an increase in Chinese universities offering Portuguese courses.
