CR Vasco Da Gamma embarked on a Yearend Tour compromising of young Footballers aged from 8 to 11 years old. For many this was the first experience of a tour outside Cape Town, the team was hosted by Juventus Crusaders based in Durban North.
Our tour started on Saturday, 4 October 2014, and ended on Saturday, 11 October 2014. The tour compromised of two age groups, u10 & u11. A Committee of five people and parents came along to support as well.
Our very first game was against the Durban District team and our u10 lost that game 3-0 and our u11 drew 1-1.
This was the very first time that the boys actually played together, making this a good acid test as to what we still needed to do. Our second game was against Westville United and our U10 Team beat them 1-0 and our U11 team drew 1-1. After that game we travelled across to Danville, to play against Juventus Crusaders, and what a game. Our U10 team ended the game with a 3-3 draw and everyone was intrigued around the pace of the game.
This was one of our U10 highlights, with our Youngest Player, Alonso de Gouveia showing off his talent and cracker goals scored by Luke Mathews and Justin Haye. All round player, Joshua Hendricks, kept on breaking pay down and made some aggressive attacking moves. Together with Grant Hess & Alex Solomans, Our defence played exceptionally well, and surprise player, Ethan Harrison and Neil Gerbach were stars in that area. The Vasco Parents continued to support the boys. Paul De Gouveia, father of Alonso, couldn’t handle the heat of the game and needed to take a seat. Many of the other parents shared his sentiment as this game was quite a heated encounter.
On Wednesday we played against the Durban district team again, as they were preparing for the tournament the following day. Our U10 started off the game and had them going with some real pace. From left winger, Justin Haye, Durban Central had no chance in our Midfield managed by Travis Elliot & Grant Hess who showed no mercy to their opponents. Our strike force, Luke Mathews, Wafeeq Morgan and the young Alonso De Gouveia was impressive upfront, keeping the defence on their toes throughout the match. We ended beating them 3-0.
Durban District Coach, Mark Fulton, seemed as if he wanted the game to end at the first half already as the CR Vasco da Gama Team kept them in their own half throughout the game.
Once again the Vasco Parents couldn’t hold back, and the support was amazing from the line. Even from the district team supporters, as our boys showed off their talent and skills!
On Thursday we played our final game against Juventus again and thrashed them 3-0. Star Players Justin Haye, Wafeeq Morgan and Alonso de Gouveia tore the entire defence apart, all three players are the youngest in the group. After nine games and eight days in Durban, the Vasco boys walked away with their heads held high and full of pride, this was a trip to remember!
