Being well known and actively involved in the Portuguese community as a businessman and sportsman, both in Gauteng and the Western Cape, Dino Gomes felt the need to start Senhor Cabo as a means to promote, serve and support the Portuguese culture in South Africa.
“I believe there is so much potential in the Portuguese community, we have an abundance of talent. In the Portuguese community you will find influential people ranging from members of parliament, sportsmen as well as television personalities,” Dino said.
In so doing, his website would serve as a portal to keep the unity within the Portuguese community. Since experiencing such rapid growth, it soon evolved into a fully fledged news platform.
Born in South Africa, he is proud to be a South African but also embraces his Portuguese heritage equally.
“Being born in South Africa to Portuguese immigrants and married to a South African, I wanted to maintain some Portuguese culture,” he said.
When Dino is not involved in his family’s business, he is engaged in social responsibilities such as serving as vice chairperson of the Paarden Eiland City Improvement District (PECID). Currently Dino is also a member of the Academia do Bacalhau in Cape Town.
From a religious perspective, Dino is vice chairman for the Parish Pastoral Council of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Sea Point and has completed his three year course in Theology.
He has a passion for sport and finds himself a member of the Redskins Golf Club in Cape Town. Previously he used to be a director at Vasco Da Gama Football Club. His love for motorcycles has gotten him involved in the Amigos Portugueses, which is a motorcycle group for Portuguese Harley Davidson enthusiasts. Other physical activities include kickboxing, running and the occasional hike (including the Camino de Santiago).
Dino is also involved himself in the Media and Entertainment industry. Currently, Dino is part of the one of South Africa’s biggest modelling agencies, Full Circle Model Management, where he occasionally does catalogues and television commercials.
As South Africa also has the largest concentration of Portuguese outside of Portugal, Dino felt it vital to start a website such as Senhor Cabo. The slogan, ‘all things Portuguese with a South African flavour” captures the essence of what Senhor Cabo is all about, so whether you are interested in sport, fashion, food, music and more, you are invited to share in the growth by visiting the site.
