Are you sitting down for what I am about to tell you? Well, please don’t, because chances are, sitting down can prove to be detrimental to your health.
Just as it is unhealthy to not exercise, it is equally unhealthy to sit too much. A study was conducted that indicated that even if someone exercises, just by sitting too much, they were still putting their lives at risk.
Sitting for long periods of time might not sound outrageously unhealthy, but according to Dr. David Alter of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute-University Health Network and Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, this could lead to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, breast, colon, ovarian and other cancers, and cardiovascular disease.
So what can one do if you sit at work whole day?
“There are very simple things we can do, every half an hour get up for two to three minutes,” Alter said.
