Easyjet may move to Portugal

There is a strong possibility that British low-cost airline Easyjet may chose  Portugal  as the hub for their European operation.

The re-positioning of the largest low-priced airways company is due to concerns over Brexit,

UK’s last year’s referendum decision to leave the European Union, will impact  negatively and create  commercial disadvantages  for the  British airline, in face of other airways operators in the continent .

Easyjet airline ,which is presently based  in the Luton airport ,situated about 45 kilometers  from central London ,has been involved in talks with the Portuguese government since the second half of last year, in view to request an Air Operator’s Certificate to operate from an alternative European continent airstrip .

The discussions have reportedly focused on creating a Portuguese domestic brand that will allow it to keep Easyjet European internal operations, such as those linking Lisbon and Madrid.

Should an affiliate be set up in Portugal, it would fly under Portuguese colours, with up to 200 planes being registered in the EU.
