English tourists saved from Portuguese beach

From the first of June it will be bathing season in Portugal or better known as “época balnear” to the locals.

But for four English holidaymakers, they seemed to start their diving session a little bit too early. Last week the four English tourists were rescued from the seas of Tavira in Portugal, close to the Fuseta seabank.

It was reported that they were overwhelmed by the strong current and waves as they were swept out of their depths. Fortunately, a local boat came to the rescue as did the maritime police, firemen and INEM.

Two of the tourists were taken to hospital but it was reported that it was rather for precaution and not for anything serious.

Because it is not bathing season yet, the beaches lacked lifeguards.
