Are you wondering what’s for lunch this Saturday? Why not spoil yourself for choice with the tantalizing variety of foods that will be available at this year’s International Food Fair.
The Parow Catholic Church in Voortrekker Road have been hosting this fair for the last 20 years or so said Jonny Fernandes and Patrick Lombardo who have been assisting to make Saturday’s event possible.
They made us aware that some of the international foods that can be tried range from Portuguese, Italian and even Indian food. This year, the parish have genuine Indians who will be preparing the Indian cuisines, so there should be a better signature of authenticity to the palate. They even joked that their priest, Father Sonny Godai is Indian.
Besides being a big fundraiser, the international food fair is also a platform to initiate community engagement.
“It’s about building the community, it’s a social event and a fundraiser,” they agreed.
They also made aware that the food that will be prepared will be made from ingredients that have been donated. This brought about a point of how important donations are to an event like this and that they would not be able to pull off something like this if it were not for their donors.
The money that gets raised will be ploughed back into a worthy project that needs funding.
Because the international food fair is a family event, they have catered for every member, young and old.
Children can enjoy activities such as face painting, a jumping castle and a karate show performed by the children of the parish.
The best part is that admission is free and everyone is welcome. So when the clock strikes for midday (12pm), we hope to see you there on Saturday, because this event only happens once every two years.
