Nothing seems more innocent than swinging by the kitchen to whip up one of your favourite sandwiches, right?
Well, the bread that you are using might turn out to be more harmful than the contents in between.
This has come to light after it was discovered that azodicarbonamide (ADA) was added to the usual ingredients of flour, salt, yeast and water. This harmful additive was incorporated as a “flour improver” to make the product whiter and improve texture. ADA has been banned in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia and the most of Europe. It has been associated with Allergies such as asthma and other respiratory problems.
ADA was also noted to be used in yoga mats, shoe soles and other rubbery products.
Another health hazard that has been discovered is that bread in South Africa contains much more salt than most first world countries.
