Smell is a sense that we take for granted on a daily basis, the ability to bask in a pleasant fragrance or detect the smell of something dangerous.
But did you know that you could lose your sense of smell?
Scientists at the University of Chicago have linked the loss of smell to early death. Even though loss of smell does not cause death, it is an indicator that something is wrong.
Smell is also important in detecting happiness. As weird as that might sound, people can smell happiness. An example would be if you felt happy being in the company of someone without saying a word. You are actually smelling chemical compounds in their sweat that makes you happy. The same holds true for negative emotions such as fear and disgust.
There are methods to improve your sense of smell like tasting two different flavours of something and distinguishing between the two. Smelling your food before you eat them and smelling various pleasant odours four to six times a day.
