Not only is Ivo (pronounced ee-vor)Nestel’s name interesting (which he assures is Portuguese) but also the fact that a man with an IT background landed up in the property business.
But back to his name. “Growing up in South Africa teachers could not pronounce my name, only when I lived in Zurich, could my colleagues and friends pronounce my name properly,” Ivo confessed.
So how did he land up in Zurich? Well, when he was still in IT, he found himself working for Dresdner Kleinwort Wassertein (DKW). Ivo was sent to head up the IT division for the German bank.
After a few years, Ivo had a yearning to come back home, but a transition of coming home wasn’t all that was on the cards.
“I wanted to come back to South Africa, then I made a change into property. I’ve always been interested in property and made a few property investments,” he admitted.
The biggest reason for the transition into property was because he wanted a new challenge and he was always intrigued by property investment. The time was right to take a new path.
“I met Marina after coming from Zurich in a bar. It was an instant connection and before we knew it, we were serious. We got married in 2007 at the Reeds Palace Hotel in Madeira,” he said.
Madeira seemed to be the logical choice as it was central for their European family as well as embracing Ivo’s Portuguese roots.
“I learnt to understand the fundamentals of property. It was an interesting time as I took a natural transition to negotiating, which got me into property broking,” Ivo admitted.
Today he works for Broll and is involved in the leasing and selling of commercial property (office space) in the Southern Suburbs or CBD.
When he is not working, he likes to stay active by spending time mountain biking, road cycling, surfing and running. He completed the Cape epic with a good friend in 2008 and finds himself snowboarding when in Europe/ Switzerland.
Some of his more passive pastimes are reading and spending time with his family.
