The saying goes that Jealousy makes you nasty, but according to recent studies, it seems like it can drive one to the bottle too.
Even though it is not proven that jealously caused people to drink, it showed that people whose self esteem relied on their relationship and became jealous afterwards turned to alcohol.
“We all experience feelings of jealousy to some degree; many people are in relationships that are less than ideal, and use alcohol for different reasons. Romantic jealousy is a shared human experience, but very little work has looked at how it is related to alcohol use, misuse and associated problems. This research helps to highlight the associations between these factors and show how our emotions, thoughts, and behaviours are related in potentially harmful ways,” study author, Angelo DiBello.
