Liga Portuguesa is back and Benfica, Porto,Sporting and Vitória de Guimarães were all able to win their respective matches and keep the distances on the table. I just want to wish the best of luck to Enzo Pérez who signed for Valencia CF for 25 million Euros, a sad day for the Benfica universe.

Benfica travelled to the north side to face new comers, Penafiel in a match, the Eagles won by 3-0! Talisca, Jonas and Jardel scored the goals in a 100% brazilian scoresheet. Both Salvio and Enzo Perez (sold to Valencia 25 million Euros) were not playing in a game, Benfica were making hard work of until Jonas superb chest goal in the 78th minute gave the Reds 2-0. Jardel, the Brazilian put the game to bed when he scored in the 90th minute following a fine pass from Nico Gaitán. Benfica now has 7 consecutive wins in the Liga Portuguesa, everything is well for the Lisbon side (in terms of the league) whose hoping to be national champions after getting kicked out both Europe and the Portuguese Cup.

Porto won 5-1 last placed Gil Vicente at Barcelos. Casemiro, Bruno Martins Indi, Brahimi, Oliver Torres and Jackson Martinez scored the blue goals as Vitor Gonçalves scored the honour for Gil Vicente. Easy win for Lopetegui’s men as Casemiro scored at the end of the first half an hour and Gil’s Jander got sent off. Things became easy for Porto who had no problem in winning and keeping the pressure over their eternal rivals ,Benfica, it’s now 6 points that separate 1st and 2nd place. FC Porto will also loose their best player this season to the African Cup of Nations as Brahimi will represent Algeria during one month.

Vitória de Guimarães kept their good form and the 3rd place (Champions League spot) with a 4-0 victory over Nacional da Madeira and André André scored a hat-trick. It was a deserving win for Rui Vitória’s side who keep surprising Portugal this year after being kicked out of the cup by their rivals Braga. Vitória is getting back to a good form.

Sporting wacked Estoril, 3-0 and put an end to a supposed breakdown between the president and the coach. A lot is being said about these situations, but as far as we know Marco Silva will be the coach till the end of the season. In Nani’s return (1 month injured) The Lions didn’t have any difficulties beating Estoril. A double by Adrien Silva and Slimani made the goals on a calm and cold evening at Alvalde. Slimani is also going to the Africa Cup of Nations joining Porto’s Brahimi at Algeria. The tournament will take place in Morrooco.

Born and living in Portugal but with a lot of family round South Africa, he’s a true football appreciator and above all says he has been «blessed» by his father for making him a Benfica supporter and member since the day he was born. Understands football as his mother understands knitting ;)
