Lisbon airport is making headlines again by being at the forefront of piloting a new “Smart Borders” programme.
This programme will be tested out on all European Union Airports after Portugal becomes the first to use it on Sunday. The programme will then be tried out for six months in six different countries.
This system will record the departures and arrivals of non- European Union passengers at European Union airports.
Nuno Melo, a member of the European Parliament, said that this system had been developed before the terrorist attacks in Paris but it has now gained new “momentum”.
The secretary of state said that Portugal had been selected to try out the programme first due to its technological advances.
