Everyone knows how important a good diet is; now, new research has shown that a high-fibre diet can lower the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
The study was carried out on more than 29 000 participants who had been tracked for an average time frame of 11 years.
Those who had traces of higher amounts of fibre in their diet had 18 percent less chance of getting type 2 diabetes.
“We are not certain why this might be, but potential mechanisms could include feeling physically full for longer, prolonged release of hormonal signals, slowed down nutrient absorption, or altered fermentation in the large intestine,” said a Ph.D. student from the Imperial Collage of London.
