The Madeira Film Festival

The Madeira Film Festival is non competitive. Rather than giving filmmakers a prize each delegate receives the ‘Laurissilva Ambassador’ award in recognition of their hard work and also as a measure to help create awareness of Madeira’s endemic Laurissilva forest. Thanks to coveted location and venue Madeira Film Festival has become the key annual film event on the island and indeed a major player on the Portuguese festival circuit.

Situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are a haven of natural beauty exposing in particular the tree lined Jacaranda’s boasting a deep purple. The springtime like temperature felt all year round beckons outdoor activities ranging from levada walks to mountain biking. In such a naturally welcoming environment balance and well being are taken for granted, Madeira offers various tourist complexes with direct access to the ocean.

The Madeira Film Festival is immensely proud and privileged that the annual event is staged between Reid’s Palace Hotel and the Municipal Theatre in Funchal. Considered to be one of Europe’s finest establishments Reid’s is synonymous with grandeur, George Bernard Shaw, Gregory Pech, Roger Moore, afternoon tea and splendid views across the bay of Funchal. The Municipal Theatre is kindly provided by the Camera Municipal Funchal for the duration of the fest.
