Manuel and Belia enthralls senior crowd

Portuguese Singer, Manuel Escorcio

Last week the elderly gathered in their numbers at the N.G. Kerk in Bothasig to witness the marriage of two unique voices.

One was the golden voice of Manuel Escorcio and joining him was the operatic voice of Belia Lourens. Even though Manuel is Portuguese and Belia Afrikaans, they catered for the same audience and had everyone in a trance of nostalgia.

The concert that they gave was the first of their series of concerts entitled “Sy en Satyn”. This also served as a treat for the Vreugdejare Senior Club.Manuel though suffering the aftermath of an operation admitted that Belia was the mastermind behind the tour.

Before the show, Manuel’s voice could be heard as prerecordings of his echoed through the hall.

The minister who founded the Vreugdejare Senior Club about thirty years ago also attended the concert and was asked to open up in a word of prayer.

Belia opened up the show with songs from her various CDs which were sold during the intermission. She also enthralled the crowd with her travelling stories, especially on the bus.

Manuel then took over and took the crowd back to the time of yesteryear with all the good old Afrikaans songs they were used to hearing.

The concert was then climaxed by the two singing a few duets.
