Portugal seems to be in the lead over Greece as far as their economy is concerned. They have managed to close their bailout programme while Greece was busy on their second one and might be looking at a third programme.
This was deemed as a success in Portugal by Prime Minister, Pedro Passos Coelho, who gave the account at the Catholic University of Portugal on Monday. The Prime Minister also added that through doing this, Portugal has won back the trust of investors by doing their share of the work and closing their assistance programmes.
Coelho compared the idea to a fairytale “that a country might, for example, not accept its international commitments, not pay its debts, want to raise salaries, lower taxes and still expect partners to have the obligation to guarantee its financing.”
