Olga Goncalves new president of the Portuguese Cultural and Welfare centre

The Portuguese Cultural Center held their BI-Annual AGM in May and Olga Goncalves was chosen as the new President.

“I am both excited and scared of this new venture in my life” she said.

Along with Olga’s election came the election of some new people and some of the outgoing committee members stayed on.  Some shifting into new roles and others keeping their existing ones.

Olga continues, “I would like to personally thank the outgoing committee headed by Alberto Goncalves for their hard work and continuous dedication in trying to upkeep the needs of those struggling in our Portuguese community and hope to live up to their standards.  As a new team we have a mammoth task ahead of us but I believe if we all stay focused and give 100% we will achieve whatever we set our minds to.”

“As a Portuguese Cultural and Welfare centre we have two core responsibilities – One is to promote a place where people can come together and trade their traditions and culture;  and the other is to provide a safe haven where our elderly can approach us for assistance and we in turn will do everything within our power to assist them.”

“Having said all of the above I have to acknowledge that nothing is ever possible without the kindness of our sponsors and I truly hope that we as a new team can continue to be supported by you our friends.  Without your donations /sponsorships /physical assistance or simply supporting our functions we will not have the funds to continue any kind of good work.”

She ends off with: “I take this opportunity to thank you all in advance for the love, kindness and support that we will share in the years ahead.”
