Portuguese actor Paul Moniz de Sa is set to play a giant in the latest Steven Spielberg movie, “The Big Friendly Giant” a Walt Disney featured film.
Paul Moniz de Sa has been working as a professional actor for over 20 years both on camera and on stage. His work has been seen on stages across North America including the Vancouver Playhouse, the National Arts Centre and at the Charlottetown Festival in PEI.
He received Jessie awards for his performances in “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” with Pacific Theatre and “The Overcoat” at the Vancouver Playhouse as well as Jessie nominations for his performance in “Driving Miss Daisy” at Pacific Theatre and his sound designs for “One In A Million” with Green Thumb Theatre and “The Prodigal Son” with Touchstone and Pacific Theatre.
He made guest appearances on all three of the longest running North American science fiction series: The X-Files (1993), Stargate SG-1 (1997) and Smallville (2001).
Moniz de Sá on getting the BFG role “It was really one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. Steven Spielberg is an inspiring director. The cast and crew were spectacular. I felt that was working. He felt he was doing magic with friends.”
“In early 2015, my agent called me to say I had been chosen for a Steven Spielberg movie, I think my reaction to the phone was:.. ‘Holy shit’, as he jumped in the hallway, it was an amazing experience I will never forget, ” he said.
Paul Moniz de Sá lives in Vancouver and came from São Miguel to Canada with his parents and eight siblings, as a child. “Despite having come to Canada when I was very young, San Miguel continues to be a big part what I am. It’s my heritage, it is the central point of the stories my grandmother and others in my family have. In many ways, its the point where my love of the arts comes from” he explains.
