It was a special day for Portuguese photojournalist, Peter Pereira on Saturday, as he was honoured with the title of “photographer of the year 2014” by the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).
This is not the first time this photographer has won this award but the sixth of which five of the winnings were consecutive. Other years he took the title were in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
He has also won the New England Newspaper Association’s Photographer of the Year six times.
His works have graced through the pages of America’s most well-known papers, such as The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post. Other forms of media that have made use of his pictures are Newsweek, USA Today, Courrier International, Chicago Tribune, International Herald Tribune, Boston Globe, MSNBC.com, CNN.com, ABCNews.com and News Photographer Magazine. This excludes international media houses that have made use of his images.
In 2006, he was involved in a project called, “A Nossa Vida: The Portuguese Experience in America”, which documents the lives of Portuguese-Americans living in Massachusetts.
