Henrique Leitão, a Lisbon-based research physicist has made it by being awarded the 2014 Pessoa Prize.
This is an award which is usually given to those who have made a contribution to the country in the fields of the arts, literature and science.
Henrique, who is 50 years of age, is not only a physicist but also the head researcher at the Inter-University Centre of the History of Science and Technology of the University of Lisbon.
“Leitão combines solid scientific training with a humanistic knowledge, making him a true connoisseur of inter-disciplin-arity,” said Francisco Pinto Balsemão, who is a former Prime Minister and chairman of the country’s largest media group.
The Pessoa Prize is an annual award which has been running since 1987 and has is funded by state bank, Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
