If everything goes according to plan, Fátima could be getting a very special visitor in 2017. It has been mentioned by the Leiria-Fátima Diocese that Pope Francis has personally told Bishop António Marto that he would like to visit Fatima in 2017.
This would mark the centenary of the Marian Apparitions, when three Sheppard children reported seeing the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cova da Iria between May 13 and October 13, 1917.
Bishop António Marto is also the first Portuguese bishop to meet privately with the pope.
Previous popes to make this visit include, Pope Paul VI visited Fátima on May,1967, followed by Pope John Paul II on May, 1987, and Pope Benedict XVI on May, 2010
