Portugal fires – death toll climbs to 64

The Portuguese Government has revealed that the death toll in the Pedrógão Grande blaze in Leiria has risen to 64.

The number of people injured by the fire has also climbed to 59, with five in a serious condition, State Secretary Jorge Gomes told reporters on Sunday morning. Portugal’s PJ police have ruled out foul play with authorities believing the blaze was the result of dry lightning. A total of 30 people died in their cars.
