Portugal Highest Wine Consumption

Figures have shown that Portugal is the country that drinks the most wine per inhabitant.

In its annual report, the International Wine Organisation said that wine consumption across the globe had largely stagnated, with China reporting the biggest increase.

Portuguese consume an average of 54 litres of wine a year, placing it at the top of the list. Portugal is followed by France, Italy and Switzerland.

Rounding off the world’s top ten biggest wine-drinking countries are Sweden, (41 litres), Belgium and Argentina, (31,6 litres each), Germany (29,3 litres) and Australia (27 litres).

The United Kingdom is much further down the list, with Britons drinking less than half their Portuguese counterparts.
