The world of literature has lost a great contributor and his presence will not only be missed in his homeland of Germany but also in Portugal which served as his home away from home.
Günter Grass was a novelist, poet and play write who passed away at the age of 87 on Monday.
Among all his literary work, he is still best known for his first novel, The Tin Drum.
“Günter is my favorite German writer (…) The Tin Drum just about blew me away (…) He had a summer place in the Algarve, Portugal and I always wanted to go there for one of his talks had anyone told me when and where.” An admirer said in an email.
Apart from being a Nobel Prize winner for literature, he was also an artist and hosted many exhibitions comprising of drawings, prints and sculptures at the São Lourenço Cultural Centre in Almancil.
