Portuguese beaches gain popularity

Marinha beach in Carvoeiro has been ranked 18th in a list of the Top 24 Beaches in the World, compiled by leading travel website Tripadvisor, while Salema beach, in Vila do Bispo, was listed among the World’s 50 Most Beautiful Beaches in an assemblage by British broadsheet The Guardian.

Salema beach in Vila do Bispo in the western Algarve was placed 15th on The Guardian’s list, and was distinguished for its “picturesque village” and “gentle waves”.

Topping the newspaper’s list in first, second and third place respectively were Source d’Argent beach in the Seychelles, Dune du Pyla, in France, and Australia’s Shoal Bay.

Meanwhile Carvoeiro’s Praia da Marinha was listed alongside other stunning renowned beaches such as Anse Lazio beach in the Seychelles, Puerto Rico’s Flamenco Beach, Cape Town’s Camp’s Bay beach, and Elafonissi beach, in Greece.

One Tripadvisor reviewer described Praia da Marinha as a “Classic Algarve beach with sand, cliffs, rocks, caves, arches—it’s got it all. Plus crystal clear water and an abundance of marine life on show.”

The website recommends the best time to visit as being any time between May and October.
Topping Tripadvisor’s ranking are Grace Bay, in the eastern Caribbean Turks and Caicos islands, Baía do Sancho, in the Brazilian Fernando de Noronha archipelago, and Playa Paraíso in Cayo Largo, Cuba.
