Members of the Cape Town Portuguese community came together to host a fantastic dinner for the President of Madeira, his Excellency, Dr. Miguel Albuquerque.
The venue was the Portuguese Club in Cape Town on the evening of the 10th December and the Cape Town Portuguese community was well represented with just over 250 guests in attendance.
Dignitaries and guests were greeted by Joao Carvalho who acted as master of ceremonies for the evening. Amongst the dignitaries was South African politician of Portuguese descent, Manny de Freitas, Member of Parliament. The anthems of South Africa, Portugal and Madeira were played for the attending guests. Dr. Miguel Albuquerque welcomed guests and thanked all those in attendance.
While guests were treated to a three course meal entertainment ensued. The opening act, Limited Edition Drum Corps, was a performance of high tempo drumming and stick juggling. Young children from the community entertained the guests with personal phrases in Portuguese. The legendary Bailinho da Madeira (Portuguese Folk Dancers) from Cape Town delivered another amazing performance.
This event was made possible by the Consul General of Portugal in Cape Town, Dr. Catarina Arruda, President of the Amigos Portugueses, Carlos de Aguiar, Liga da Mulher and the Portuguese Welfare. The delicious crayfish starter was sponsored by Conselheira Ligia Fernandes.
