I have heard about forecasting the weather but forecasting the amount of children there will be in a population, just takes things to the next level.
This is what Eurostat has done with their prediction of Portugal. According to them, Portugal is likely to be the European Union country with the least amount of children by the year 2050.
Now, that might seem like a long time away, but given the thought that it is only 35 years, that is not too long for off spring to take a sharp decline.
Currently, children under the age of 15 make up 14.6 percent of the population, which makes it the eighth European Union country with the lowest percentage of children.
It is predicted that in 2050, Portugal’s children will make up a mere 11.5 percent of the population.
Portugal is not alone in the forecast as all European Union countries are expected to take a drop in child population.
