We just found out that it is National Sandwich Month and so we decided to share a sandwich recipe with you today. Normally when we mention Portuguese sandwiches, first thing that comes to mind is a Prego Steak Roll, but we had to give you something different.
We scoured the Internet and found Elise Johnson who shares her moms Portuguese Chourico sandwich recipe and it is certainly unique.
You will need:
- 1 stick of salted butter
- 2 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 3 shallots, minced or 1 small onion, minced
- 5 pounds ground Chourico, a Portuguese smoked sausage
- 4 ouncess tomato paste
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper, optional
And then the cooking starts which is so simple, anybody can do it. Cook the ground Chourico, shallots and garlic in butter. Add tomato paste, wine and spices. Cook until wine has evaporated.
Elise goes on to say that her mom serves it in soft, small finger rolls or on Portuguese rolls.
