On Tuesday, 25 November, The Red Cross Children’s Hospital received a generous donation from the Yzerfontein Boat Angling club in conjunction with the support of the Portuguese community.
The money was raised during a Portuguese family day on 15 November, where the Portuguese community was welcomed to have a day filled with fun in Yzerfontein.
Attendees were welcomed with traditional Portuguese cuisine as well as traditional drinks such as Poncha.
The Portuguese folk dance group, Bailinhoda Madeira, gave a demonstration of fancy footwork. And of course, what would a Portuguese event be without Kanimambo to delight the crowd with their rhythms.
There was no shortage of entertainment for the kids as there was a jumping castle and a swimming pool.
Two traditional mixing sticks were made by Carlos Leao and auctioned off on the day. The money that was raised from this generous donation went towards the Hospital.
The check for R12 200 will go towards the upgrade of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This is the second time that a donation has been made to the hospital as a result of hosting a family day. According to one of the members of the Yzerfontein Boat Angling Club, the event was well attended and seems to go from strength to strength. He also mentioned that many bed and breakfasts were fully booked due to the influx of people which contributed to the tourism industry in the area.
