Portuguese tiles inspired João Tiago Aguiar

A lace-like pattern inspired by traditional Portuguese tiles covers the rear side of this charming house in Lisbon.

Architect João Tiago Aguiar completely redrew the back of the house, named after the nearby shopping street Restelo, and create a mansard roof with three minimalist openings.

Restelo-House-by-JoãoThe rear fascia features a series of windows and shutters that can be completely closed to form a uniform, semi-transparent screen, or opened to let natural light into the interior. This delicate canvas references patterns of traditional Portuguese tiles and functions like a skin that filters light and provides optimal levels of privacy for the residents.
