The field of 56 Redskins Golf Cape Town golfers were certainly singing as the weather in Cape Town on 6th June was perfect for golf.
Milnerton Golf Club was the chosen course for the annual Portuguese national day outing. There was no wind and the course was perfectly manicured. As a result players for the day carded the highest average score in the Redskins Cape Town 26 year history.
The title was won by Mark de Freitas on 42 stableford points. Gil Gorgulho came in second place followed by Roger Bigaignon in third place.
The nearest to the pins were:
Hole 5 – Simon Turner da Luz
Hole 7 – Johan Kotze
Hole 11 – Mark Ferrao
Hole 14 – Dino Gomes
The longest drive went to “Big Hitter” Rae-Mero Rafael.
The chairman of the Redskins Golf Cape Town, Anthony Moniz, thanked the Portuguese Consul, his excellency Dr. Jorge Sampayo for his presence at the Prize Giving. Dr. Jorge Sampayo thanked all for being present and for their love of the rich Portuguese culture. He added that the 5 million Portuguese people living outside Portugal were imperative to continue and sustaining the rich Portuguese heritage and culture.
Carlos de Aguiar, president of the Amigos Portugueses, was also present encouraging all to continue being involved in local Portuguese activities.
Anthony Moniz concluded the Prize Giving with some inspirational words and undertook to make next year’s Golf outing bigger and better!
