The National team coach, Fernando Santos, was also applauded by the locals as he came out of the bus to go into the hotel.
Portugal faces Sweden on Tuesday night, at the Estádio do Marítimo, in what will be the first game that Cristiano Ronaldo plays in Madeira, wearing the of national team colours, since 2001.
