rua” translated from Portuguese to English is normally a paved part of road, usually in a village or a town, also including the sidewalks (pavements) and buildings.

Odette and I attended the RUA Tapas Bar & Restaurant Soft Launch last night at Wembley Square in Cape Town. RUA opened up a few months ago in Wembley Square occupying the space of former restaurant known as Sinns.

We were given a warm and friendly welcome on arrival, coupled with an awesome Patron cocktail! DJ Ian Skene and January One kept the cosmopolitan and trendy crowd entertained on the decks.

I’m not sure on the origins of the restaurant but can’t help but get a Portuguese “feel” on the layout and modern concept. Staff were very friendly and accomadating coupled with tapas out of this world. Monkey Shoulder, Patron and Hendricks Gin was available at three strategically placed bars.

The food and vibe was very good and one could easily be mistaken for thinking that you were at a trendy Lisbon bar. Odette and I will definitely be back and look forward to their chilli poppers!

A big thank you to RUA and Jade Allen from Red Carpet Concepts for an awesome evening.
