Santos chairman Goolam Allie has confirmed that former Bloemfontein Celtic and Vasco da Gama coach Tony de Nobrega has been appointed as the club’s interim coach.
De Nobrega’s appointment follows after his successor Zeca Marques parted ways with the club by mutual agreement.
“Yes, I can confirm that we’ve called on Tony to be our interim coach,”
“The team needs to consolidate and pick up points and we needed to act quickly.”
Allie then wished Marques well, thanking him for the “gentleman” relationship he had with the former Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards coach.
“It’s unfortunate that the results were not forthcoming for Zeca and the team, but it was not for a lack of trying,” he said. “Luck just wasn’t on our side.
“I don’t know how many times we hit the crossbar and the upright … things just didn’t go our way.”
Santos currently sit second-from-bottom in the National First Division, with a tough fixture away to Jomo Cosmos scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
