The smell of happiness

The smell of happiness

A recent study has shown that body odour is more than just a smell emitted through your sweat glands.

The research has shown that a positive energy can be transmitted from one person to another without a hug, smile or laughter.

For a while, aroma therapists have known that feelings and memories can be evoked through the power of smell. Now, scientists agree that happiness can be found in sweat and transmitted into the air when someone is in a good mood. Those in the surrounding area will be able to feel the happiness through the smell of the sweat.

“Human sweat produced when a person is happy induces a state similar to happiness in somebody who inhales this odour,” said Gun Semin, a research professor in the department of psychology at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada in Lisbon, Portugal.

He was not the only one who agreed with this theory.

“Hearing happy people and seeing happy people makes you happier, so the fact that smelling them would make you happier, too, is probably not so surprising,” said Andreas Keller, a research associate with The Rockefeller University.
