If you’re wondering which university is the best in South Africa, wonder no more.
The University of Cape Town (UCT) placed third in the top 100 universities among the Brics (Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa) countries. The results for 2015 were released on Wednesday.
Stellenbosch University did not come too close to UCT but still managed to make it to the top 20. This was an improvement from last year where they came up from 21 to 17.
Other South African universities to make the list were, Wits in 14th place, the University of KwaZulu-Natal at number 47 and Pretoria University coming 77th.
“These new (rankings) show that although Wits, Stellenbosch, KwaZulu-Natal and Pretoria may not yet be among the very best universities in the world, they are certainly very strong performers among the giant Brics nations. Strong universities at the forefront of new knowledge creation and innovation are essential for South Africa’s continued economic growth,” said Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education rankings.
If you are wondering who placed first, it was Peking University in China.
