Vasco da Gama are getting ready to host former PSL top-flight giants Moroka Swallows who are struggling in the National First Division since their relegation last season.
Swallows, better known as ‘The Birds’, are currently 13th in the 16-team First Division and have just 6 points from their opening 7 games, highlighting just how tough it has been to be relegated from South African Premiership football.
The once mighty Birds have fallen a long way and the jury is still out to see whether the team in maroon and white have the character to bounce back into the top flight again.
Standing in their way this weekend is an ambitious Vasco side who are 9th on the table with 9 points from 7 games.
Vasco will host Swallows at Parow Park at 15h30 in what is expected to be a thrilling game.
Former Bafana Bafana striker Siyabonga Nomvete is still rolling back the years for Swallows, and will present a challenge for Vasco’s young defenders such as Nathan Gertse, Roscoe Pietersen and Rafiq de Goede.
But Tony de Nobrega’s side will look to take the game to Swallows given that the match is on their home turf, and the likes of Mbulelo Wambi and Johnny Armogam will hope to make it count inside the 18 area.
