Vasco da Gama can thank Rafiq de Goede for a late equaliser that saw them draw 1-1 with fellow National First Division (NFD) strugglers Mthatha Bucks at Parow Park on Saturday.
Bucks opened the scoring after 19 minutes when Bafana Dlamini cut through the Vasco defence and buried a low shot into the far corner.
The game continued to see-saw for the rest of the encounter and the visiting Bucks defence had their nervous moments. Finally, Vasco found their equaliser when centre back Rafiq de Goede scrambled the ball home from close range.
Meanwhile Baroka FC’s lead at the top of the log extended to four points with a 3-1 home win over Santos, and Witbank Spurs were held 2-2 at home by AmaZulu.
At the same time Highlands Park continued their great form and moved into second place, leapfrogging Witbank Spurs. They scored a 2-1 win at Royal Eagles on Sunday.
Round 24 of the NFD will be played on the weekend of 9-10 April, with the league going into recess during the upcoming 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and second round of the Nedbank Cup.
