Vasco da Gama went down 2-1 to their city neighbours FC Cape Town in a tense National First Division clash at Parow Park on the weekend.
The other Mother City teams in the NFD also struggled as Santos and Cape Town All Stars drew 0-0 while Milano lost 2-1 to Thanda Royal Zulu in KZN.
After leading at halftime, Vasco let the game slip and had Matthew Rowell sent off (Vasco’s third red card in six 6 matches) and the visitors got the winner in the dying moments to register their first win of the season.
Meanwhile Baroka FC retained their place at the top of the log despite playing to a goalless draw with Black Leopards.
Former log leaders Cape Town All Stars were unable to take advantage and return to the top, as they were held to a goalless stalemate of their own in a derby match away to Santos.
Vasco are now tenth on the table with one win, three draws and two losses from their opening six games.
Due to the FIFA International break, there will not be any NFD action for a couple of weeks. Vasco’s next match is away to African Warriors on 18 October.
