Vasco Da Gama in Cape Derby this Sunday

Vasco da Gama have a tricky Cape Town derby encounter with Santos FC in the National First Division this weekend.

After drawing their opening league fixture 1-1 away at Mthatha Bucks last weekend, Tony de Nobrega’s side will hope to claim their first win of the new season.

Meanwhile Santos lost their opening game 3-2 at home to Baroka FC and will come into the clash against Vasco knowing that they need to up their game.

Vasco defender Sibusiso Mxoyana told Soccer Laduma that with the club’s new signings they have a good chance of success this season.

“All the guys are aiming for promotion but it’s not going to be a walk in the park. We need to give it our all.

“Last season the side had a problem scoring and also conceded too many goals but, by bringing in guys such as midfielders Mumuni Abubakar, Lionel Mutizwa and Ritchi Sebastiao as well as Omaatla Kebatho – who scored a brace when we beat Cape Town All Stars 4-3 in a friendly – it shows we’re hungry for the PSL.”
