Winning 2-0 against Mother City rivals Santos was a result that Vasco da Gama desperately needed in their quest to survive relegation in the National First Division (NFD).
They Parow-based club are now fourth from bottom with 24 points from 23 games played. Below them are Mthatha Bucks (22 points), African Warriors (18) and Moroka Swallows (16).
Vasco can thank Siphesihle Stuurman and Darryl Smith who found the back of the net against Santos.
Meanwhile in news around other NFD teams from the Mother City, Milano United missed out on the chance to move above Witbank Spurs and into the top three after they lost 3-0 at Mthatha Bucks.
Moroka Swallows gave their survival hopes a boost with a 2-1 win away to FC Cape Town (Aleni Lebyane and Clifford Mulenga netted for the Birds). They remain at the foot of the table, but now just two points adrift of second-from-bottom African Warriors, who lost 2-1 away to Black Leopards.
And Cape Town All Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Royal Eagles.
