Vasco da Gama’s positive turn around in form saw them beat 5th-placed Royal Eagles 2-0 at home in the Mother City over the weekend.
The result moves Vasco to 10th position on the NFD table with 30 points and the Parow-based club are now well out of the relegation zone, having not so long ago been dangerously close to the dreaded drop zone.
In beating Eagles, Vasco put a dent into the KZN side’s promotion hopes. Vasco scored a goal in each half with Stanley Muishond netting in the opening half before Jarrod Moroole made it 2-0 after the break.
In other matches involving Cape Town teams, Cape Town All Stars beat FC Cape Town 2-0 in a derby at Athlone while Milano United beat AmaZulu 1-0 thanks to a goal from Gregory Roelf and Santos defeated Moroka Swallows by the same score to move clear of the drop zone.
Vasco are away to Cape rivals Milano United on Sunday, 15 May. After this they have one more game and that is at home to Black Leopards on Sunday, 22 May.
