The signs have been there of a positive turn around in form over the past while, but Vasco da Gama’s 3-1 win over log leaders Baroka FC on the weekend was their finest result for most of the season.
Ahead of this past weekend, Vasco had secured 5 points from their last three National First Division (NFD) games under the experienced coach Sammy Troughton, and club CEO Edries Burton told this website prior to the Baroka game that two consecutive wins would help lift Vasco out the danger zone.
In beating Baroka 3-1, Vasco claimed just their sixth league win all season thanks to goals from Siphesihle Stuurman, Alcardo Van Graan and Stanley Muishond.
The result means that leaders Baroka FC had their lead at the top of the log slashed to just one point by Highlands Park who drew 1-1 with Moroka Swallows in Soweto.
Meanwhile Royal Eagles moved into third place on the log with a 1-0 win at home to AmaZulu thanks to ex-Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela.
In Cape Town, Milano United were beaten 1-0 at home by local rivals FC Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium, with Marshall Munetsi scoring the only goal, while Cape Town All Stars won 1-0 at African Warriors.
