Vasco da Gama beat Maluti FET College 3-0 on the weekend to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.
In total, three National First Division sides – Golden Arrows, Black Leopards and Vasco Da Gama – all made it through to the Last 8 of South Africa’s biggest cup competition after this past weekend’s action.
Vasco were too strong for fellow NFD side Maluti as they secured a 3-0 victory at Parow Park, with Aleni Lebyane, Stanley Muishond and Samuel Julies getting the goals for Tony de Nobrega’s side.
NFD side Black Leopards made the biggest headlines with their 2-1 away win over Absa Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Goals from Morgan Shivambu and Roggert Nyundu took Lidoda Duvha to a shock victory at Soccer City, although their first goal was clearly offside and Chiefs were denied an obvious penalty in the first half.
NFD leaders Golden Arrows secured their progression with a 1-0 win over ABC Motsepe League side Natal United at Chatsworth Stadium as Arrows forward Mabhuti Khenyeza got the goal.
Meanwhile the other NFD side in Nedbank Cup action, Jomo Cosmos, went down 1-0 away to Black Aces.
Arrows, Leopards and Vasco join Bidvest Wits, Ajax Cape Town, Aces, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarterfinals.
The next round of NFD league fixtures will be played on the weekend of 3-5 April.
